This Family Home in Taiwan is Every Kid's Dream

In most renovating projects, the things that make it to the top of the priorities list are things adults want: spacious modern kitchens and bathrooms, lots of light, bigger closets. But one family in Taiwan remodeled their kitchen with the needs of their smallest family members in mind.

This Taiwanese couple turned to HAO Design Studio to create a combined kitchen/dining room that could also function as a playspace for their two children. They envisioned it as a space that would bring the whole family together, with the kids playing and exploring while mom and dad prepared meals. Besides a swing and a slide, there's also a lofted playhouse, accessed by a set of stairs built into a bookcase. Beneath the playhouse is a cozy reading nook.

The playful feel of the space extends beyond just one corner: there's also a green chalkboard wall next to the entrance, where all the members of the family can exercise their creativity.

Far from seeming cheesy or childlike, the resulting space is elegant and minimal, but with a whimsical appeal. And everybody looks pretty pleased with the results.

You can see lots more photos of the space (trust us, it's worth it!) at Dezeen.
