A New Trend We Love for the Kitchen

Here's a new trends that's starting to crop up in kitchens all over, a way to add a little character and a lot of storage to your kitchen all in one fell swoop. And the best part is, it's something you can easily add to your kitchen without having to remodel.

The trend? Using antique, freestanding cabinets for storage in modern kitchens. This, of course, used to be quite common in kitchens built before the World War 2-era shift towards built-in cabinets with uniform counter heights. And it's starting to gain popularity again because of a few recent shifts in kitchen design.

The first is the shift towards kitchens with very little storage above waist height or none at all. The disappearance of the upper cabinets means that those kitchens enjoy a much brighter, more open feel, and there's a lot more options for windows in the kitchen. The downside, of course, is the loss of storage.

So adding an antique cabinet to the mix is a great way to recoup lost storage space — and add a little contrast to a super modern space.

It can also be a great way to show off your liquor collection, and make all your friends jealous.
