Tech hobbies are expensive. After you buy equipment and software and who knows what else, there are always unexpected costs. Like new furniture (Really!). Vinyl afficionados know that a record cabinet is a great investment to store your equipment and ever-growing record collection. But if you've already squandered your savings on turntables, try this DIY version.

Rachel of Smile and Wave showed off this DIY project on A Beautiful Mess. Using some unfinished wood, industrial casters and two shabby-chic metal milk crates, she fashioned a record cabinet that has plenty of room for a compact turntable, a collection of vinyl and a few other odds and ends.

And of course, if you're not a record collector, you can still make a piece like this work in a million other ways. Rachel mentions that the pieces works well as an entry bench — just add a cushion to the top and use the storage below for shoes and boots. Check out the full tutorial at A Beautiful Mess.
