Casual Games You Won't Want to Put Down

We've got a good mix of gamers here at Apartment Therapy. While some of us love FPS (First Person Shooters) and action titles, almost all of us appreciate casual games, those titles perfect for picking up while riding the subway or waiting in line at the post office. In this roundup we'll take a look at some of our favorites in this category for the iPad, Android and Windows 8 tablets, that we have difficulty putting back down once we pick up!

Hundreds: This physics based game looks and plays like what we imagine Osmos would had it been designed by Dieter Rams. Having said that, it's easy to see why we love this game so much as it ticks off all of our boxes. Interesting gameplay? Check. Great graphics? Check. Addictive? Check! $4.99

Letterpress: If there was ever an app that would sell my mom on the beauty of just how nice things can look without bubbles and heavy skeuomorphism this would be it. Played not just by my friends but also by my parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, Letterpress is a heavily addictive word game that goes beyond the Scrabble clones and is a delight to play even when you're getting creamed by your relatives. Free

Ski Safari: Appropriate for winter gameplay, this app has that same fun addictive quality that Jetpack Joyride (more on this app below) has, but with the addition of eagles, yetis, and snow. What's not to love? Also available for iOS. $.99

Around the World in 80 Days HD: Think of this game like a Bejeweled clone with a Jules Verne inspired storyline. Perhaps it's the travel junkie in me, but I have a difficult time putting away this app and I keep telling myself, "just one more city..." Also available for iPad. Free, $4.99

Windows 8
Jetpack Joyride: Simple concept, but as anyone who has played this game can attest, this side scrolling game is highly addictive. Who would have thought avoiding obstacles while wearing a jetpack would be such a recipe for fun? Also available for iOS and Android. Free

Angry Birds Star Wars: We're pretty sure there's not a tablet owner in the universe that has not heard of Angry Birds, but just in case one was not aware that Angry Birds Star Wars exists, we had to include it in this roundup. Yes, it's just as fun as it sounds and is a delight for both Angry Birds and Star Wars fans. This writer cannot stop giggling whenever she sees the birds dressed as characters from Star Wars and finds the Wookie bird in particular quite enchanting. Also available for iOS and Android. Free & $2.99 for iOS & Android, $4.99 for Windows 8

What tablet games do you find addictive?
