Vintage Modern: Bokja Design's Quest for Sustainability

Hoda Baroudi and Maria Hibri are the Beirut based duo behind Bokja Design, a pair who have combined their love of antiques, vintage furniture and textiles to create a unique vision of modern furniture. With the help of local female artisans, familiar mid-century vintage pieces are refurbished in salvaged Middle Eastern and Central Asian tapestries to combine eras and cultures in a nod to the "complexity of humanity."

Established in 2000, Bokja Design was formed as an "expression of respect and love for an age old culture and aesthetic with a human approach. The concept stands for a poetic use of color, an emphasis on craftsmanship, and the sustainable use of available materials to express an artistic idea with an ever present spiritual concept."
