Found: Perfect Pastels

We mentioned the Tone kids chair awhile back, but that wasn't what drew our attention in this photo. Instead, it was the softly understated pastel background that makes you think of sweet dreams and smiles instead of feeling like a bag of cotton candy threw up...

Pastels are always associated with children, but these days it seems wall colors are going bolder, darker and crazier. And while we don't have a problem with that idea, we still hold a soft spot for these muted and soft spoken colors.

Try getting this same look at home by balancing the pastels with darker furniture and accent pieces and adding a glaze once you've painted your stripes, or base color. The glaze will give it a milk paint effect (or you could just use milk paint) and try free handing the grey line to give it a more rustic touch instead of a stark and cold feeling line.

Try it half way up your wall if you aren't feeling daring enough to take the look floor to ceiling or even give it a try on a sanded and primed Craigslist piece of furniture! Looking for something a bit bolder? Try stripes like these!
