Make a Jingly Hand-Knitted Door Curtain

At the height of their popularity, beaded curtains hanging in a doorway sent a clear message: inside you will find a free spirit, someone who marches to their own beat and is proud of it. Truthfully, that may have been putting too much significance on 12 strands of plastic beads. But here is a DIY update to the classic beaded curtain that uses yarn, bells and some basic weaving skills to send an entirely new message: handmade and proud of it.

Last month we featured a finger-knit round rug from Anne at Flax and Twine, as part of her '5 Fabulous Finger Knitted Projects' series. This door curtain is the second project in the series and we think it would look perfect adorning the entrance of a child's room. Pushing through the soft strands of yarn will surely spark the imagination, with the whole effect being heightened by the gentle jingling of bells. The best part is that the project is straightforward enough for children to take part.

Be sure to check out the basic finger-knitting tutorial before you start and you'll soon be on your way.
