Mark's Birdhouse Speaker Project

Unplggd reader Mark Fischer sent us this very cool and crafty DIY speaker enclosure made with plywood and a Dayton DTA T Digital Amp powerin a single HiVi B3N 3" driver, designed to go into his child's nursery room...

Mark describes his project: Since it will go in our nursery, I wanted it to look a bit cute and match the decor. I've never seen a bird house shaped speaker before and I thought it would be a cool shape for a speaker. I used old warped plywood to build the box. The plywood was a pain (and my carpentry skills are poor), so it needed plenty of hand finishing to get it all to fit together. It is a Dayton DTA T Digital Amp powering a single HiVi B3N 3" Driver. I'm hoping to make a wooden dowel "perch" just beneath the speaker to control the volume and on/off.

The sound is pretty good. It is not very full, but what I hear is crisp and plenty loud. I'm sure it will be good enough for the "little bug." He'll be listening to some indie rock lullabies and nature sounds, nothing requiring wicked fidelity.

What a wonderful father and project. Your lil' audiophile in the making will surely appreciate all the hard work that went into this speaker project.
