How many of you made the New Year's resolution to lose weight or eat healthier? Every decision adds up to the person that stands before the mirror, but those eager to tackle finding a healthier "you" can turn to apps for some fitness goal help. Here are a selection of apps we believe will start you off on the right foot to making a resolution into a reality.

Left: Calorie Counter & Diet Tracker - Right: Tap and Track

Calorie Counter & Diet Tracker
My Fitness Pals' Calorie Counter & Diet Tracker app, recognized by Wired and PC Magazine as an effective health tool, offers a comprehensive database of 1,100,000 food items easily referenced via integrated search or barcode scan using your phone's camera. Over 350 exercises for either cardio or strength can be input into a personal profile for a more individual customization based on specific user requirements. Using gender, age and activity level any user can use the exercise and dietary intake logs to learn what their bodies need in order to reach sufficient fitness levels. Free

Tap and Track
iPod Touch users who use their iDevice as an MP3 player during workouts will love Tap and Tracks, as it frees users from the requirement of a constant data connection. There's a wide range of ingredient and meal options, as well as exercises, both precise in information offered for a fitness regimen. Everything is tracked from BMI to daily calorie needs and intake. This information is streamlined into pie charts and can even be exported into spreadsheets. $4

Left: Noom Weight Loss Coach - Right: Ultimate Weight Watcher Diary

Noom Weight Loss Coach
Many of us already think of smart phones as our personal assistants, but how about as a personal trainer, giving out a daily push for weight loss based on our personal condition? With features such as GPS tracking for a variety of exercises, pedometer feature, and a staff of dieticians, personal trainers and behavior experts providing data for Noom, this Android app is well equipped for fitness guidance. Free

Ultimate Weight Watcher Diary
We love cooking our own meals, but tracking the caloric quantity of home cook meals can be a challenge. Ultimate Weight Watcher Diary features a library of 500,000 items, as well as a database of over a million barcodes for store bought groceries to help you determine how much is in what you eat. Users can build meals specific to both their dietary needs and goals using meal estimates and daily allowance figures. On top of its detailed resources of nutritional information, the app also has a journal for various exercises and activities to keep us up to date on our progress. $4

Left: LiveScape - Right: Calorie Counter

Windows Phone 7
We love it when an app offers a wide variety of features, but even when those features are well done and actually useful. LiveScape is an effective calorie counter which allows users to scan nutrition information using the Windows Phone camera and import them online. Track daily intake easily, or use the pedometer feature (with an easy to toggle soft lock feature to stop accidental stop and go) to keep tabs on distance and calories burned. Physical measurements like waist, hip and neck aid in creating a more precise calculation of body fat, lean mass and fat mass to help keep track for leaner muscles. LiveScape even goes as far to determine factors such as allergies, sickness and even creates an ovulating schedule. $5

Calorie Counter
An effective app for those who like to keep tabs on meal past, present or future. Meticulously time meals ahead of time to avoid repititious dishes, save money on groceries, and factor in any weight goals. With a little help from the activity diary, Calorie Counter will calculate the nitty gritty details to balance the information into something easier to digest. In fact it even has a weight progression chart to clearly show the progression of your dedication to your diet. Free
