You know that particular quality of light that you find in Florence or Oaxaca or the Greek islands that exists nowhere else in the world? It's one of the joys of traveling—being able to feel a completely different type of daylight than you experience in your everyday life...

It's impossible to capture in photos, since it has so much to do with the sensory experience of a place, but images can at least evoke the memory of being in Spain on an August afternoon or in Stockholm during the early spring. In the few photos above, you can catch a glimpse of what the light looks like at different times of the day, in far-flung parts of the world.
