With the resurgence of '80s style in the past few years, pastels have been having quite a moment at home. And while light colors will always have a place in our palettes, Pinterest is noticing that some bolder hues have been gaining in popularity recently.

In the company's 2018 Home Report released this week, bolder, deeper shades were gaining traction. And it's not all that surprising that they're popping up in more "real" homes these days, as darker hues have been popular in the design industry for their serious dose of drama.

Red, which is up 217% in likes and saves on Pinterest, is very on trend, at least according to Benjamin Moore; the paint brand named Caliente its 2018 Color of the Year.

We've written here about ways to decorate with the fiery hue in the past, including using it as an accent in a mostly neutral room, and how a little can pack a big punch.

Dark blue, up 139%, is a smart way to go deep. Blue is often sited as most people's favorite color, so the easiest way to explore the dark side is with a shade of the ocean hue. If you need some expert help, here are some (designer-approved) color palettes.

The last bold shade gives the impression that you're relaxing in it. Hunter green, up 209%, brings the forest vibes, even if you're nowhere near the trees. And while dark colors can be intimidating for the novice painter, the deeper hues can actually hide flaws and help ground your space. So pin some pics, and then get thee to a hardware store to try it out for yourself.
