The Monster Weekly

Just in time for Halloween, The Monster Weekly has launched with beautiful illustrations and stories. Each week readers meet a new monster who is confronting and conquering fears and challenges that uncannily resemble regular kid concerns.

There's something great and refreshing about a site that provides free smart content for kids without any marketing or product tie-ins. Writing team John Francisco and Caryolyn Defrin work with illustrator Kyle Bice to bring each monster to life. The Monster Weekly bears the imprint of Shel Silverstein and Maurice Sendak, written and drawn in a tender and thoughtful way that kids will love with a little extra edge for parents. So far the team has introduced Barry, Wendell and Pepper, three monsters who worry that they might have lost their scary mojo, Judgy Judy who has strong opinions and no friends, and Delilah, a little monster who wants to be an astronaut.

These short stories will be a great addition to any bedtime repertoire, for Halloween and year round. Parents can read the stories off of a tablet or smartphone, or print them out so kids can revisit the illustrations. Check out The Monster Weekly and follow their twitter feed to learn when new monsters go live, @monsterweekly.
