Tiffanie's Peaceful French Apartment

Name: Tiffanie Delune
Location: Aubervilliers, France

After living abroad for years, I bought a one bedroom apartment of 43m2 in the northern suburbs of Paris and my mother's hometown, Aubervilliers, in 2013. When I visited the place back then, the apartment had a few assets I could not miss: a huge living/dining room, big windows with a great exposure and a balcony on a quiet backyard. However, the apartment felt crowded with too many colors used in the wrong balances: think an orange kitchen, touches of bright yellow, turquoise and bubble gum pink in the living room, coral and khaki in the bedroom and cherry red with shades of grey in the bathroom. Color is a tough one even with the best of intentions. But I remember that Solange Knowles did it right in her Brooklyn apartment.

I knew from the start that I wanted to create a visual story that would reflect my eclectic personality and could constantly evolve in time. Being influenced by Scandinavian interiors, I decided to stick to one primary neutral palette to create a peaceful atmosphere. All rooms have been painted in white and the floors are the original ones: light wooden in the main room, soft pink ceramic in the kitchen and white tiles in the bathroom. I went for timeless furnitures in white, beige, black and brown bringing together different trends and eras: French classic, the American 50s, Mexican art, Industrial and much more.

I accessorized with a few greens and a handful of bold elements, such as colorful and graphic posters, Gabonese masks, personal paintings and do-it-yourself to infuse life and interest. Most of the objects come from trips to Lisbon, Bali, Stockholm or New York City, artists found online thanks to instagram and pinterest and wanderings around Paris. What I like the most about having gallery walls and canvas on the floor is the possibility to move things around depending on the season and my mood even if I rarely get rid off them. Each piece reminds me of a certain time, place, feeling, alone or with someone.

Thanks, Tiffanie!
